Job Verification
Practical steps for checking an international job opportunity before applying or sending personal information.
1. Check the Original Job Source
Look for the original employer or recruitment source behind the vacancy. Whenever possible, locate the vacancy on the employer's official website.
2. Research the Employer
Check whether the company has a legitimate online presence, including an official website, physical business information and appropriate contact details.
Be cautious when an alleged employer has no verifiable presence or only communicates through personal messaging accounts.
3. Check the Email Address
Pay attention to the email address used by a recruiter or alleged employer. An address using a company's official domain may provide additional context, although an email address alone does not prove that an opportunity is legitimate.
4. Check the Employment Details
Look carefully at the job title, location, duties, salary, working conditions, contract information and application process.
Be cautious if the offer contains unrealistic promises or avoids providing basic employment information.
5. Be Careful With Upfront Payments
Be extremely cautious if someone demands money before providing a job, interview or employment contract, particularly when payment is described as a requirement for guaranteed employment.
6. Verify Visa Information
A job offer and a visa are separate matters. Employment eligibility and immigration requirements depend on the destination country and individual circumstances.
Always check visa information through the relevant government immigration authority.
7. Protect Your Documents
Avoid sending passports, identity documents, banking information or other sensitive documents to unknown individuals until you have properly verified who you are dealing with and why the information is required.
8. Watch for Pressure
Be cautious when someone creates unusual urgency, threatens that an offer will disappear immediately, or pressures you to transfer money before you have had an opportunity to verify the opportunity.
9. Use Official Sources
Immigration requirements, work authorization rules and government procedures should be confirmed through official government websites.
10. Keep Evidence
Keep copies of job advertisements, emails, contracts, payment requests and other communications. This can be useful if you later need to report suspicious activity.
Before You Apply
- Have I identified the actual employer?
- Can I find the employer independently?
- Can I locate the original job advertisement?
- Have I checked the employment details?
- Have I verified the visa information through an official source?
- Am I being asked for an unusual upfront payment?
- Have I protected my sensitive personal documents?
Something Doesn't Look Right?
Do not rush. Stop and verify the opportunity using independent sources before continuing.
